NYSE Currency Monitor

An application that displays foreign currency exchange rates on the trading floor of the NYSE.

Objective

An application that could display foreign currency exchange rates on the trading floor of the NYSE. It was necessary that the currency monitor met the highest failure tolerances, even in the event of an interruption in Internet connections. The monitor needed to maintain a 100% uptime while continuing to display prices.

Solution

The NYSE wanted the prices to be displayed in real-time on the trading floor’s four main monitors. Since guaranteeing the highest uptime rates was imperative, the application had several logical layers. Each layer was represented by an independent service, and each service had a backup running in parallel.

During the 4 consecutive years the currencies were displayed on the NYSE floor, neither the application or the monitors experienced a second of downtime.

Business Impact
  • 4 consecutive years as an official provider of currency prices translated into an excellent advertising campaign for FXCM.
  • FXCM became the first Forex retail broker listed on the NYSE.
